All companies require you to take out a 6 month or 1 year policy. You can either pay in full, or pay monthly.
Temporary Car Insurance?
Most insurance companies offer temporary operating permits (or TOPS as they are known in the industry). They can be for 1 day to 2 weeks. More expensive than a full term 1 year policy but if you only need it for one day dont go through the hassle of taking out a long term policy, cancel it in a couple of days and pay a cancellation penalty (oh yes there will be one).
I need help finding short term insurance!!!?
You would want to use your parents address as your semi-permanent residence and apply based on that information.
United Healthcare, Anthem, Assurant and a few others all offer policies for up to six months.
One thing to consider: If you were in an accident and it kept you in the US for longer than six months – your coverage would end and you quite possibly could be uninsurable at that point.
Maybe consider buying a permanent policy and cancelling it after your time here is up.

Do you need auto insurance but just for a short period of time, then short term auto insurance policies may be the answer for your needs. There are many reasons why you may need a termporary auto insurance policy:
for example, you may want to go for a trip on vacation and you want to drive a car from someone else, so you need to have car insurance.
Maybe you are a student and when you go back home on vacation you need to have auto insurance for a few weeks, then temporary auto insurance is the right answer.
HEre is the thing, you should only get a short term auto insurance policy if you really need it, because it is cheaper to just get a regular yearly insurance policy, but if you are just going to use a car for a month then paying for one year is not worth it.
The companies that offer this kind of coverage usually do it in 2 week or 4 week periods, up to 28 days. If you need it for 2 months you wil have to renew your policy.
To keep you rates the lowes possible, you need to have a good driving record, be over 25 years old and drive safely. Tell you insurance company how many miles you plan to drive.
Now, to compare temporary auto insurance quotes from the leading providers, just enter your zip code in the box above this page.

I bought a car last night and i need to take it in for an emissions test. I want to have insurance, so i can drive it to enforcement but i dont want any long term insurance commitment in case it doesent pass emissions.
Are there are reputable companies that will insure my car for only a week or so? Im from the US.
R:
It used to be that all car insurance companies only insure you for 6 months or 1 year period, but nowadays there are a few companies that offer short term or temporary insurance.
Short term car insurance means that you will get a insurance policy coverage for up to 1 month. It is usually valid for 2 weeks or 4 weeks period.
It is usually cheaper to get a yearly regular auto insurance policy, but if you just need it for less than one month, then temporary car insurance may be good for you.
You need to ask your insurance company for this kind of insurance policy, however if you want to check it out online and get quotes, is very easy just enter your zip code in the box above this page and you are ready to go.

I am looking for a short term car insurance for overseas visitors to use my car.?
Well for the life of me I cant understand why. After all over 60% of rental car companies business is with foreign nationals. Now if your visitors are already here and they hold a current drivers licence, take them to registration branch and see about an international licence. If they are not yet here, tell them to seek such licence in country of origin.Hope this helps
Short term car insurance In the US ?
Since you are required to have your parents permission to make your trip, I must assume that you are under the age of 25 and your parents are paying your insurance. Since I am not familiar with your driving record, (safety, length of time driving, etc.) your best bet would be to call around to different insurance companies and make your inquiries there. Explain what you need, and why you need it. You may find what you want quickly, or you might be pointed to a company that CAN accommodate your specific need.
You might also have to buy a six month policy, then cancel it when you return, and get a pro-rated refund.
If you cant find anyone to help you suggest the bus to your parents as an alternate mode of transportation. It can be a great adventure, and you can catch up on your sleep on the way home.
Short term car insurance for foreign visitors?
First of all, you may need to consider the matter of licenses. Some states will not register someone a car if they do not have a US license. Also, you will be paying through the roof for insurance as US insurance carriers have no way of verifying a non-US license, so they charge you higher premiums. If you are a younger person, you may pay a lot more. Without a US address, I think very few insurance companies would write a policy. Furthermore, even if you are able to get an insurance policy, it may only cover you while you are the driver; none of your mates would be covered to drive.
If you have auto insurance now, check to see if your insurance company offers any special coverage for traveling outside Europe. Check into getting an international license that covers you to drive in other countries. You may need to fill out some forms or a test (Americans have to if they wish to drive in UK). A car rental may be another option as usually they are later model cars and more dependable. You can also take out insurance with the rental car agency. Most airports have rental car companies there. You may want to inquire of them ahead of time.

For those instance a short term policy maybe ideal for you.
Nowadays there are some car insurance companies that provide short term policies that are great for someone that is going to be driving a car for a period of 1 to 28 days. One of the advantages fo this kind of temporary policies is that if a driver that was added to a policy had an accident, the policy holder would lose their no claims disocunt.
These kind of a shor term policies are also very helpful if youare test-driving a car, borrowing a friends truck, going for a trip, etc. Temporary policies are great for people looking to avoid placing themselves on someon elses policy.
You should not risk your self by not having auto insurance even if you are just using a car for a couple of weeks, it is much better to get a short term insurance and have the piece of mind that you are properly covered even if you have borrowed a car.
